What is Lenticular Printing?

Lenticular printing is a very complex but simple process that combines graphs with a lenticular lens to give depth or motion to any image you have. At Elite Flyers, we have perfected the art of creating motion and depth using special techniques that can be used for anything you want to be printed.

How Lenticular Printing Works

When creating a lenticular print, the graphics must first be prepared for the special lenticular lens, which is made up of repeated rows of convexed lenses on the front surface. These convexes are called “lenticules”. On the backside of the lenticular lens, there is a smooth surface area that allows us to print a full color image directly to it. 

To prepare the graphic, we must interlace the image. This requires repeated slices of one image which may be one specific scene to give it a 3D effect or multiple frames and images, which will give the print an animation of sequences.

The final step of creation is to take the interlaced image and apply it to the lenticular lens. When done properly, the visual effects will be stunning and all who see it will take notice of it.

True 3D

3D effects reach new levels when combined with lenticular technology. We go beyond the past way of creating this illusion. In the past, it was done with stereoscopy, a process of providing slightly offset views of an image to the left and right eyes. It is effective, but lenticular technology allows it to be more appealing to the eyes since each eye sees a different view of the same image. This gives objects or scenery items the ability to pop or recede within the print.

Flip Effect

Although this is one of the simplest effects we can create, this does not lessen its overall impact on a card or poster. With a lenticular flip effect, we are able to print up to 24 separate images that can be viewed independently by simply viewing at different angles. This technique is ideal for showing something old transition to something new or having something disappear and reappear as something different. Turning tokens into cash for a casino or an old house into a new renovation.

Morph Effect

If your business requires you to transform something basic into something outstanding, morph effects may appeal to you. With this technique, any two elements can be morphed. However, it does work best when the two images are similar in shape and on a background that is also similar. For example, A full soda morphing into an empty bottle. Or a human face morphing into an aliens.

Zoom Effect

With zoom, it isn’t just bringing an image from far away to close, but that can be part of it. It can also include size changes and spins as animations that will enhance the zooming illusion. You can choose to emphasize your company name, company logo, or both. Imagine a vehicle coming from far away to close by as a way to show that your limousine service is always there.

Full Animated Effect

You can now hold a mini animated video in the palm of your hand. With a fully animated lenticular print effect, it is possible. It is done using several images that show a movement from beginning to end. To achieve this effect, we suggest you have an image with a stable background and only the target should move. A dancer performing a pirouette or a day spa performing a service.

3d + Flip

Your cards and posters should emphasize how you see yourself as a company.
